Flutter vs Xamarin- Know the comparison!

For the last decade, the mobile industry has undergone tremendous growth, especially regarding application development.  There were more than 2 billion smartphone users in the world, and the number is going to increase over 5 billion by the end of 2022. Apple and Google have provided tools and technologies to develop an app. IoS developers can build apps using Xcode and Swift, whereas Android developers can use Android Studio and Kotlin/JAVA. As a result, this requires engineers to learn two completely different technologies. So, companies have started to use cross-platform solutions using single language. Before Flutter landed in the cross-platform development field, two frameworks are popular in the market: React Native and Xamarin. Let’s see the Flutter vs Xamarin.
Flutter vs Xamarin

Flutter vs Xamarin

1. Introduction-

Flutter-

Flutter is a Google’s project. It was heavily promoting since 2019. Flutter helps developers to build cross-platform apps faster using single programming language.

Xamarin

It has been found since 2011 and is now a part of Microsoft community. But flutter has started seeing a huge change since 2017. Xamarin was the first cross-platform mobile app development framework where companies can make both android and ios apps. Later in 2016, Microsoft acquired Xamarin and it so it becomes a part of Microsoft Visual studio.

2. Programming Language-

Flutter-

Flutter uses the Dart programming language which was introduced by Google in 2011. Flutter supports most of the object-oriented concept so, Dart syntax is easy to understand for JavaScript or Java Developers. It is easy to get started with, because there are many documentation available on Dart site.

Xamarin-

Xamarin uses C# language to build cross-platform apps. C# has been widely used in the Microsoft community since many years, so it is a very popular language. To build .NET frameworks and for web development C# is useful. So the transition from web development to cross-platform mobile development is easy for developers with Xamarin. It is popular with its cool features like portability, metaprogramming and functional programming.

3. Technical Architecture-

Flutter-Skia

Flutter uses dart framework. It has many inbuilt components so is bigger in size and doesn’t require the bridge to communicate with native modules. Dart has many frameworks, such as Material Design and Cupercino. These frameworks are packed inside and it provides all the required technologies needed to develop mobile apps. This Dart framework uses Skia C++ engine, that has all protocols, compositions and channels. Simply, Flutter has everything required to develop an app in the Flutter engine.

Xamarin- Mono

Xamarin uses the Mono execution environment for both iOS and Android platform. For iOS, Mono execution environment runs with Objective-C and Unix kernel. While for Android,  it runs along with Android Runtime on Linux or other kernel. Microsoft documentation includes detailed explanation of ios and Android architecture used with xamarin. Xamarin also has Swift runtime support.
Analysis- Xamarin architecture looks solid, but it doesn’t have great support for the Kotlin or the Swift run time which are official runtimes for developing Android and ios apps. Hence Flutters wins the architecture battle.

4. Installation-

The installation method should be easy.

Flutter-

Flutter can be installed by just downloading the binary for a specific platform from GitHub. For macOS, we have to download the flutter.zip file and add it as a PATH variable. Flutter should improve the installation method by supporting package managers, so that users wouldn’t need to perform these extra steps during installation.

Xamarin — Visual Studio (Xamarin SDK)-

It is generally used with the Visual Studio IDE, Xamarin SDK for iOS.  MacOS can be installed into Visual Studio afterwords. The step-by-step installation guide for installing Visual Studio with Xamarin SDK can be found at microsoft’s documentation. There is hardly any documentation or resources about installing or using Xamarin without Visual Studio.
Analysis-
Xamarin installation is completely dependent on the Visual Studio IDE, while Flutter installation can be done via command line. installing Flutter is much more easier and lightweight and Flutter can be installed without any dependency on IDE.

5. Learning Curve-

Flutter-

Flutter has detailed information on IDE setup and platform setup for both iOS and Android. You can read all the required setup details on Flutter install for macOS at flutter’s documentation. Flutter has a CLI tool called flutter doctor which can guide developers through the setup. It checks which tools are installed on the local machine and which tools need to be configured. Once all the setup is done, we can create and run a new Flutter app from CLI easily.

Xamarin-

Xamarin configuration is heavily dependent on Visual Studio and the Xamarin SDK, so the developers who are already familiar with the VS Code can get up and running very quickly. However, Xamarin requires separate configurations for ios and Android. The Xamarin guides ios and Android. This explains the onboarding process for new developers, but Xamarin is heavily dependent on Visual Studio. A developer who is not from Microsoft ecosystem requires long learning curve.

6. UI component and development API-

Flutter-

This framework is packed with UI rendering components, device API access, navigation, testing, stateful management and loads of libraries. This eliminates the need to use third-party libraries. If you get the Flutter framework, it means you will have everything needed for developing mobile apps. Flutter also has widgets for Material Design and Cupertino that allow developers to easily render the UI on both iOS and Android platform.

Xamarin-

Xamarin is the oldest cross-platform SDK so it has solid documentation of its development API. It supports various platforms, like iOS, Android, Forms, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, etc, which have lots of UI components and modules for developers to build on. Xamarin also has documentation for developing individual components, like layout, buttons, pop ups, databases, etc.

7. Developer productivity-

Flutter-

As the complexity of apps grows, developers need to learn and adopt new Flutter concepts. Dart is uncommon programming language so there is a lack of support for it.

Xamarin-

This framework has many modules and great development API. It is relies upon Visual Studio IDE. Developers from Non-Microsoft community need large learning curve for the concepts of VS Code. When compared to editors, IDEs are heavy-weight and building and compiling things takes time. As xamarin uses AOT compilation for ios  and JIT/AOT for android, so changing UI may require some time.

8. Community Support-

Flutter

Flutter gained a lot of attention when Google promoted it in the Google I/O conference in 2017. The Flutter community is growing rapidly. Meetups and conferences are taking place online. In short, the Flutter community is growing rapidly; yet, there are still not enough resources for developers to solve common issues.

Xamarin-

Xamarin has a huge community all over the world. There are community forums to discuss problems, issues and proposals. There are some conferences as well for Xamarin-related talks, like Xamarin Developer Summit. Being the oldest cross-platform mobile app development framework, the Xamarin community has more involvement from developers.

Conclusion-

Xamarin and Flutter are frameworks in the cross-platform mobile development market. Both of these will enable to produce native-like mobile apps from the same codebase. Here, we have compared both technologies based on different criteria from a developer’s perspective. It is true that Flutter has entered the industry very strongly.

10 Reasons why Laravel is the best PHP framework for 2019

https://solaceinfotech.com/blog/10-reasons-why-laravel-is-the-best-php-framework-for-2019/
PHP is one of the oldest and also popular scripting language. There are many PHP frameworks are available such as Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter, Yii 2,  Phalcon, CakePHP, Zend, Slim etc. Choosing the best one among them to develop a web app is not an easy task. To get more visitors to a website, it should fulfill some important aspects such as features, design and ease of use. Laravel is at the peak point of selection among all PHP frameworks due to easy and effective agile web development. Developers and website owners needs the clean development, simple and reusable coding. And Laravel is exactly suited for these requirements. Also readability and flexibility are the most important features of Laravel.

Laravel

Let us see why laravel is trending in market even right now?

1. Object Oriented Libraries –

One of the strongest reasons of laravel to stand out among other PHP frameworks is its pre – installed object oriented libraries, which are not available in other frameworks. Also it has many advanced features such as, resetting the password, monitoring active users, Cross Site Request Forgery Protection, encryption, Bcrypt hashing etc.

2. MVC-

Another strongest feature of laravel is that it works on MVC architecture. It has multiple in- built functionalities. MVC helps to improve the performance and also better documentation.

3. Packaging System-

Packages are the most ideal approaches to speed up the development process. A packaging system manages not only libraries but also multiple support software that assist the web applications to automate the task. Laravel has a new feature which is Automatic Package Discovery. It automatically detects the packages that users want to install.

4. Authentication and authorization-

It becomes easy and simple to implement authorizing technique in Laravel. Controlling the access to resources is not difficult in Laravel. Using very few artisan commands application will be configured with secure authentication and authorization.

5. Artisan-

Artisan is a command line interface of laravel. As a result, this helps developer to get free from creation of proper code skeleton. You can extend not only the functionality but also the capability of Artisan by using new custom commands. Some common uses of Artisan are seeding boilerplate code for migrations, models and new controls, managing database migrations, package assets etc.

6. Task Scheduling-

Task scheduling is important in every project. Scheduler in Laravel does the programmatic scheduling of periodically executed tasks. This scheduler is called by Corn frequently and Laravel calculates scheduled tasks and executes all the pending tasks. And in that manner, Laravel does managing and scheduling of tasks very easily.

7. Template Engine-

Template engine of laravel is Blade. It permits the developers to write their plain PHP code. Blade, combines one or more templates with a data model to produce the resulting views. Blade helps to write a multi- language application. It is very fast and it caches the compiled perspectives. It helps to build effective designs and include partials to beat redundancy in multiple documents.

8. Testing and security-

It allows unit testing so that user can conveniently test the application. It allows to run hundreds of tests so that to verify new changes done by developers are not breaking anything in web application. This feature also allows developers to write unit- tests for their own code.
Laravel uses Bcrypt hashing algorithm for creating an encrypted password. Laravel includes some security features such as Encryption, authentication users, protecting routes, HTTP Basic Authentications, configuration, storing passwords, password reminders and reset. Here, password will not save as a simple text in DB. Every time when new user log-in, a token is generated so that hackers could not get access to unauthorized web page.

9. Laracasts Tutorials-

Laravel offers Laracasts, which has many free as well as paid tutorial videos in order to help developers to learn. Expert and experienced instructors made these videos. So programmers will effectively learn and develop in progressive way.

10. Pagination-

It paginates all data from database. As a result it gives the best development- friendly environment. Pagination gives benefit to apply different styles and also to change URL parameter. It is combined with Eloquent ORM hence it provides a flexibility for the use of big databases.

Final Words-

These are some important features that makes Laravel the best PHP framework. Also it has a strong community support. Laravel is scalable. And it also helps in fast and cost- effective software delivery.

AWS vs Firebase – Is It Even a Fair Fight?

When you choose to go through serverless route, you will have two options- AWS or Firebase. Which one will you choose ? Here we will compare AWS vs Firebase. First of all,

What is Serverless architecture?

A traditional server has a single server which performs multiple responsibilities in the database. This single server performs different functions such as authentication, writing files, keeping track of users etc. When a request is strike to the server, it executes some processes and gives back a response.
Serverless architecture is a microservice architecture. Whenever an event occurs, a code will get executed. The server runs when something happen. The code will come to the active state to execute when server receives a request. It is not persistent. It uses resources only when there is a need. The main advantage of this is, every function has its responsibility,  none of it will overlap and thus it makes things cleaner and less complex.

AWS vs Firebase-

Amazon Web Service-

Amazon Web Services is a global cloud computing platform provided by Amazon. It provides combination of Infrastructure as a service(IaaS),  platform as a service(PaaS) and packaged software as a service(SaaS)offering. AWS has many services all together and it is like a solution getting from a single step. It is easy to set up. And it provides good customer service. As it is a subsidiary of Amazon it always maintains its quality. It has a pay per use service which is helpful to minimize the burden on a customer. Sometimes it is complicated for new startups to understand and manage. AWS provides services from multiple data centers all over the world.

Firebase-

Firebase is owned by Google. It is a cloud server and its services are good at starting stage. It is not well developed like AWS.

Good and Bad Points of AWS-

AWS has many different services so it is capable to provide all-in-one solution. AWS Lambda is strong in performance. Cloud solutions are beginner friendly and it makes easy to set up. It provides reliable service and customer support. It has a pay-per-use service, means the costing depends on the traffic you are getting.
AWS requires a slight learning curve so sometimes it could be a difficult choice to recommend. Their framework is additionally equipped towards larger teams. If you have made some mistake, AWS could finish up costing you more cash than you initially foreseen.

Good and Bad Points of Firebase-

Firebase is new as compared to Amazon Web Services, but is more advanced in its technology. It has unique services about image, voice APIs and text. It has a feature for traffic management service. Firebase includes services that makes its scaling easier. It offers low IT costs. If you have a small team to set up, firebase will be the best choice than AWS setup. It doesn’t require skillful learning, thus easy to use for those having less knowledge.
However, Firebase is complicated to query for large datasets. It’s database don’t provide relational data and this may trouble for some new companies. Let us see AWS vs Firebase.

AWS vs Firebase, Which one to choose?

AWS is owned by Amazon whereas Firebase is owned by Google, so both are the products of top companies, so the support and updates provision service is best in both. And they maintain their reputation. Both are best cloud servers and provides good user experience to the users. In short we can conclude that, AWS is suitable for large teams whereas Firebase is suitable for small teams and startups.

When to choose AWS?

  • When you know perfectly well that you are going to scale horizontally.
  • You need a large storage. Organizations that need to deal with large amount of images or videos or things like this.
  • You know that you need to start and stop services as demand increases and decreases.

When to choose Firebase?

  • You need less storage.
  • New startups.
  • Dealing with less data.
If you’re interested in migrating to the cloud, then we’re more than happy to help you get started. Solace is there to help you for cloud platform. We believe in benefits of using Firebase and AWS. We will provide the means to bring your company the success it deserves. Contact us for using Firebase or AWS in development.

Flutter vs React Native: A Developer’s Perspective

As more and more people are adapting new technology, the demand for developing and using mobile app also highly increases. But having multiple platforms for developing these apps is such a complex thing to decide on which platform should we use for app development. Nowadays, more competing platforms are Flutter and React Native. React Native is developed by Facebook whereas Flutter is introduced by Google. Flutter and React native are the two main development frameworks which are contending to prove themselves best and that they are the host of the cross-platform mobile app development. Performance mapping is the best way to identify which framework is ideal for mobile app development. Let us see Flutter vs React Native.

Flutter vs React Native-

Flutter vs React Native

1. Programming Language-

Flutter uses Dart. It uses modern features of several languages to code beautiful native apps. There is no separation of templates, style, and data files. Dart is easy-to-use for people who have experience developing an app in OOP languages such as C++ and Java.
React Native uses JavaScript as its programming language.

2. Reusable code-

Flutter allows overwriting the code. If you want to use reusable code then Flutter is the best option for you.
React native allows to reuse the code but it is restricted to some basic components. React Native takes more time to style the platform.

3. Stability and Flexibility-

On account of flexibility, there isn’t any significant difference as both are managed by well – established tech communities. Flutter offers more customized widgets to build attractive experiences.
On the other side, React Native gives uninterrupted user experience via direct communication with the native platforms.
Flutter is still trying to make its position in the market due to the recent release in the market, and React Native is enjoying the first position in the list of cross- platform app development tools in the market.

4. Development time –

Both, React Native and Flutter committed to provide faster time to market of an app. In comparison between React Native and Flutter, Flutter takes more time for development than React Native.
React Native as ready to use components so its development is simple and quick. And hence it gets high priority for mobile app development without bothering the developers. According to developers point of view React Natiev is more efficient.

5. Community-

As Flutter is new in industry there are plentiful tutorials and guidelines available online available.
React Native is popular and old in industry hence gets lot of community and online support. The skilled developers in javascript are came up with the solution to a problem regarding development.

6. Possibility of validating changes-

One of the most important responsibility of developers nowadays is to make changes specifically if developing cross platform app. However it has a sigh of relief that both React Native and Flutter supports ‘Hot Reload’ feature which allows developers to check and validate changes effectively.

7. Documentation and Tooling-

Flutter provides more organized and efficient documentation  than React Native. So flutter eases the job of app developers. So undoubtedly flutter is better than React Native.
Documentation of React Native is disorganized and bulky. It has missed out many things.
Now focusing on the tooling, we can see a tough competition between these two frameworks. Flutter contains a wide range of IDEs and tools that support React Native. It is compatible with Visual Studio Code, Android Studio etc.

8. Performance-

When comparing React native and Flutter on the basis of the performance, Flutter has benefit over the other. Flutter has advantage due to bridging between Dart and JavaScript to connect with native components.
But,the problem with React native is visible distinguishable when app developers are developing hybrid app.

9. Customer Base-

Flutter is launched just a few years ago, it is struggling to go ahead in market race. Presently only few apps are there which are developed by flutter.
No doubt that, React Native is  most promising mobile app development framework for the developers. This framework can carry any size of project,  examples are Facebook, Instagram, Airbnb, Skype, Walmart.

10. Architecture-

Flutter is very new as compared to React Native, and this makes everyone unsure about the best design to execute for your application. There are some architecture that are popular among Flutter community. You can use BLoC architecture which stands Business Logic Component. This architecture is characterized by Google in DartConf2018, and it states that business logic should be present out of the presentation layer and placed in business logic components.
There are two examples for building React Native applications, Flux and Redux. These frameworks are about unidirectional data flow by making your app components as stateless as possible.

11. Unit Testing-

Flutter uses Dart which gives an excellent unit testing framework which can be used and Flutter gives you a good option for testing  the widgets on runtime at unit test speeds.
In case of  React Native, Developers have all JavaScript frameworks for testing at a unit level. But at the point of UI and automation testing, the situation is not as bright. whether, a number of third-party libraries are available, there is no clear picture there.

12. Configuration and Setup-

Setup process of Flutter is more simple and Straightforward. Flutter has a provision of automated checking of system problem. In such cases using flutter command tells you whether Android toolchain has set up correctly, whether the necessary Flutter plugins have been installed and configured correctly or not and which gives the list of connected devices etc., which sometimes react native miss.
React Native installation is annoying and it requires a lot of attention to moving pieces.

Conclusion-

You couldn’t conclude between Flutter vs React Native. Both the frameworks have their own plus points in terms of stability,  performance, documentation and other technical conditions as mentioned above.
From this, you can choose Flutter when you want cross-platform, app that requires highly attractive UI, excellent native performance, quicker development.
You can choose React Native, when you need support from native app performance and have to use JavaScript as a developing language.

What is Flutter? About the joy of flutter

What is Flutter?

Flutter is an open- source mobile application development framework. Google created a flutter. To develop applications for Android, iOS and applications for Google Fuchsia, flutter can be used.
Flutter
Flutter is Google’s portable UI toolkit for building beautiful, native applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase. It is going popular day by day in mobile development. Its popularity can be evaluated by the fact that it is not stable release but still has been already used by many famous companies such as AliBaba, Google Ads, Birch Finance, App Tree, Hamilton Musical  and so on.

Goal of flutter-

  • The goal of flutter is to enable developers to deliver high performance apps that feel natural on different platforms.
This framework uses Dart programming language and is introduced by Google. It supports most of the object oriented concepts. So, the syntax of Dart are easy to understand for java and javascript developers. This framework has inbuilt components which are bigger in size and mostly it does not require a medium to communicate with native modules. Dart has many frameworks such as Material design and Cupertino. These frameworks are packed in dart and provides technologies that are required to develop mobile apps.

Joy of Flutter-

The apps built with this framework are beautiful and smooth and this is the most important thing that makes it different from others. Creating awesome tools and IDE integration becomes easy due to flutter and Dart in control. It allows the app developers to create apps for both Android and iOS, using a single codebase. It has inbuilt library for android as well as ios, Material library is for Android and Cupertino is for IOS widgets that are pixel- perfect implementations of Google’s and Apple’s guidelines.
